Biography

Karen A. Paschal, PT, DPT, FAPTA is a Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, School of Pharmacy and Health Professions at Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska.  Her experience as a physical therapist spans clinical practice in a variety of settings, teaching and research. Karen’s primary faculty responsibilities at Creighton have included developing, assessing, and refining the clinical education component of the curriculum, developing a multidisciplinary initiative in patient safety in the Center for Health Services Research and Patient Safety and collaborating to develop an interprofessional collaborative care curriculum for students across the health sciences.  Her research interests include collaborative learning, performance-based authentic assessment and the use of health information technology.  She has published in such journals as Physical Therapy, the Journal of Physical Therapy Education and the Journal of Rural Health.  
Karen provides consultation to physical therapy programs in the area of program development, curriculum, outcome assessment, faculty development and specialized accreditation. She serves as an adjunct faculty member in the PhD program at Nova Southeastern University and the entry-level program at St. Francis University.  She has chaired the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education and serves as an on-site team leader for candidacy and accreditation reviews. She has served as Nebraska’s chief delegate in the APTA House of Delegates and currently serves as a member of the APTA Reference Committee.  She is the recipient of the Nebraska Physical Therapy Association’s Achievement in Education Award, the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education’s Distinguished Service Award, the APTA Lucy Blair Service Award, and is a Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the APTA.
