Creighton Pediatric Therapy Events

Join us for our upcoming camps and groups, including the following:

Special Olympics

Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.

  • January 23, 25, 30
  • February 1, 6, 8, 13, 15, 27
  • March 1, 13, 15, 20, 22

This free program runs for seven weeks in January – March 2018. 

Creighton University’s Departments of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy are offering a head start to the Special Olympics through a pre-sports program. Special Olympics Young Athletes is a sport and play program for children with and without intellectual disabilities, ages 2 to 7 years old. Young Athletes offers families, teachers, caregivers and people from the community the chance to share the joy of sports with all children. During each session, a physical therapist and a Creighton physical therapy/occupational therapy student will train the children in basic sports skills, like running, kicking and throwing.

Halloween Tricks & Treats Night

Dates: Thursday, October 26 from 6 o’clock to 7:45.

PumpkinA free event open to families of children with special needs and their siblings.

Children will have the opportunity to participate in an obstacle course, scavenger hunt and Halloween themed activities to promote gross motor skills; fine motor skills; and language building skills in a fun and safe environment. Costumes are encouraged. Parents will be provided with information on nutrition, physical activity, sensory processing and activity ideas to make Halloween fun for the whole family.

Movin’ and Groovin’ the WRITE Way

Coming Summer 2018
(Ages 5–9)
Program fee: $120 (fee includes all sessions and all supplies) 
All sessions are led by licensed occupational therapists.

Movin and Grooving Fall Handwriting Camp

If your child would enjoy making his or her own Play-Doh, performing simple yoga poses, and completing obstacle courses as a means of practicing and improving handwriting, then we have the camp for you! 

Movin’ and Groovin’ offers multisensory activities and hands-on instruction from licensed occupational therapists to improve handwriting skills. Children will also learn simple yoga poses and breathing techniques aimed at decreasing anxiety that often accompanies handwriting. 

This camp is geared toward children needing fine-tuning of handwriting skills using the Handwriting Without Tears® curriculum. Movin and Grooving Fall Handwriting Camp

Making Waves

Coming Summer 2018
Program fee: $120 (fee includes all sessions and all supplies) 
All sessions are led by licensed physical therapists.

Making WavesIf your child is progressing in land-based therapy and is interested in a change OR is nearing discharge and you want to explore pre-swim skills, then we have the camp for you! 

Making waves offers small group-based motor skill practice opportunities in a fun and motivating environment at our community partner, the Armbrurst YMCA. Properties of the water will be utilized like buoyancy and resistance to offer strength, balance and endurance challenges not found on land. Pre-swim skills will also be explored like breath control, kicking and gliding.

Picnic and Play

Coming Summer 2018
Program fee: $120 (fee includes all sessions and all supplies) 
All sessions are led by licensed occupational, physical and speech therapists. 

Picnic and PlayIf your child struggles with social interactions and peer relationships, has difficulty with mealtime, and/or needs a little extra help with mobility, then this is a group for you! 

This program offers a motivating and fun option to add to existing therapy services or to bridge toward discharge. We will work on skill development around socialization with peers, building routines during mealtimes, incorporating healthy lifestyles and leading play-based movement activities. Picnic and Play
